The region around the Verdon Canyon is known for its nice weather during summer.
Every single month of the long summer has its particularities :
Already at the end of March as well as in April
you will realize during your travelling, that the trees in the south
are a lot more green, and in the Provence the sun makes us happy with
likely outdoor temperatures. Enjoy with us the delightfull colors of the growing
plants and observe how life awakes everywhere!
The temperatures are already confortable, the Canyon of Verdon is a
well known easter travelling area for those who want to be during the first
guests of the season. Do not forget your t-shirts neither your easter eggs,
as well as a pullover, a warm jacket and a warm sleeping bag,
because some of the nights might get a little fresh!
In May the Verdon region is incredibly quiet. You can go on
bike on the roads around the canyon or discover the region by car
without disturbing or being disturbed. The temperature of the lake
invites the few guests to bathe in and the forests nearby glow in the
loveliest green. You have to be prepared for a few rainy days and
the melting of the snow in higher mountain regions. Therefore, May
is the best time for canyoning at the Verdon.
There are some fascinating gorges that are only carrying water
during that time. This is the reason why our popular
canyoning week at the Verdon
takes place at the end of May.
A few weeks later in June, it seems that everyone working in the tourism
branch at the Verdon would be ready to start hoping for an exciting
main season. The temperatures disinctly rise, the days become longer
and having dinner outside becomes regular. Although this time is ideal
for bathing holidays, there are no masses of people invading the Verdon.
This is perhaps the case because there is more to be experienced than
bathing in the lake or because there is no mass accommodation at all?!
At the beginning of July the holiday season starts in France.
For 80 per cent of the French spend their holidays in their own country,
the number of guests extremely rises by the second week in July.
Nevertheless the region is never overrun. The Mistral, a slight wind from
the sea damps the power of the sun. Despite being present all the time,
the sun never becomes unpleasantly hot. Because of that, sun protection
is an absolute must!
August is the month with the highest temperatures.
The Mistral carries humid air from the Mediterranean Sea.
It climbs from the mountains to the centre of the country and
builds on some afternoons gigantic mountains of clouds within
only a few minutes. Those are likely to develop big but short
thunder storms which disappear as quickly as they arrived and
which can hardly be surpassed in their beauty. After a few minutes
the sun reappears and consumes the humidity within an hour. August
remains the month with the most sunshine, for the rain is not counted
in day but in minutes. At the end of the month the weather slightly
cools down.
A golden late-summer prevails in September. The sun rises over
our climbing rocks during breakfast and heats the air to summerly
temperatures within a few minutes. Compared to August it is a little
cooler which is ideal for extended sports activities like the
climbing week
and the canyoning week at the Verdon.
Now that the numbers of visitors are decreasing at the Verdon after
the main season, animals are likely to leave the forest and roam
about the camping site : squirrels, wild boars, screech-owls,
badgers and an incredible variety of birds. At the end of the month
the trees bear leaves in autumnal colours - including plenty of sunbeams -
a beautiful time. Furthermore September with its deep-seated
sun is a fantastic month for first-class photos - most of our own
ones are taken during this space of time.
And also in Oktober, when in England and Germany autumn has arrived,
the weather at the Verdon spoils us with temperatures like summer!
For actual information we publish the forecasts for the next two days,
as well as a climat table.

In May and September you should bring a warm jumper and a
warm sleeping bag. Although the temperatures during the
day are really pleasant,at night it is sometimes likely to cool
down because of the altitude. Temperatures of about ten degrees
centigrade are not an exception.
Because in the Provence the sun is very intensiv, donīt forget
sufficient sun protection: creme, glasses and hat for the activities.
